Encouraging people to vote
Netflix's entire recommendation system is based on users rating the movies they have seen; this was a pretty interesting way to get me rate a movie that I recently returned. After you rate it, they Ajax in your recommendations. (I gave it 3 stars by the way. Bill Murray was good, but the ending of the story was frustrating.)

I love this. Great way to show the benefits of rating a movie and doing it in a way that gives a quick payoff, not a long term benefit.
